Javelina Hall of Fame
Woodroe Petty was a three-sport participant in the late 1930s. He was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 1985.
He played football and basketball and participated in track and field.
He was an All-Alamo Conference honoree in football and was captain of the basketball squad. He was on the football team in 1936-39, was a basketball player in 1937-39 and was on the track team in 1936-39.
Petty was a member of the Student Council and also was on the Athletic Council. He was affiliated with the “T” Association.
He coached football, basketball and track at Woodsboro High School in 1939-41 and at Floresville in 1941-42. After serving in the U.S. Navy in 1942-46, he coached football, basketball and track at Freer in 1946-47 and at Taft High School in 1947-57.
He retired as an elementary principal in Taft and has a school named for him in that city.
Petty’s hometown is Sinton.
