Jim Koerner was an All-Lone Star Conference basketball player in the early 1960s and served as a student assistant coach before graduating.  He was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 1998.
          Koerner, who resides in Portage, Wis., earned three basketball letters with the Javelinas.  He was all-conference first team and was selected to the NAIA District IV team.  Koerner was the LSC player of the week three times.
          After finishing his eligibility, he served as a student assistant coach in 1965-66.
          Koerner was one of numerous players from Wisconsin who played for the Javelinas in the 1960s and 1970s.
          He was a coach in the Portage schools from 1966-92 and continues to teach in the system.
          Koerner received the Portage School Board outstanding contribution to education award in 1987-88, was coach of the year in basketball in 1988-89, and was an assistant boy’s basketball coach of the 1982 team that won the Wisconsin state championship.
          The honoree has done post-graduate work at the University of Wisconsin-Stout and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
          He is married and he and his wife, Kay, have a daughter, Kristine Koerner-Bowe.
