One of the greatest offensive lineman to suit up for the blue and gold, Martinez was part of four consecutive Javelina Football playoff teams that compiled a 39-13 overall record in that time frame. The apex of his time with the Hogs came during the 1994 season, where the Javelinas would reach the NCAA DII Championship finals but would eventually fall to the University of North Alabama.

Individually, Martinez was nothing short of exceptional with the Javelinas, being named as an All-American during the 1994 season by Football Gazette. His senior season would be his best individual season yet, being named a NCAA Division II first-team all-American as well as another all-American nod from Football Gazette. Martinez was also named to a pair of NCAA All-West Region teams his junior and senior season as well.

The 1994-95 offensive line that Martinez was a member of is perhaps the greatest offensive line in program history, producing four all-Americans along the offensive line including Hall of Famer Jermane Mayberry, Jeff Rodgers, Hall of Famer Kevin Dogins and Martinez.

After his time playing for the Javelinas, Martinez would return to Texas A&M-Kingsville as an assistant coach beginning in 2005 before beign named as the Iterim Head Coach during the 2014 season. Martinez would return to Javelina Football as an offensive analyst furing the 2021 season, a position he serves to this day. Martinez also served as a student assistant to the Sports Information department at Texas A&M-Kingsville as well.

Martinez is married to Marissa Martinez, a former Javelinas Volleyball player. His daughter Maya is a student at TAMUK and his son Rylee is signed to play for Javelina Football as part of the 2025 signing class.
