Javelina Hall of Fame
Ada Ihemelu, from Cedar Hill, played one year at Cedar Valley Junior College before transferring to TAMUK. She had been coached at Cedar Valley by Donna Benotti and she followed her to Kingsville when Benotti took over the Javelina program. Ihemelu was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 2004.
She played two seasons with the Javelinas and made the All-Lone Star Conference first team. She is considered one of the best to play for the Javelinas since the start of the program in 1968.
Ihemelu was declared ineligible to play her senior year at TAMUK because of a technicality over which she had no control. She was considered an All-America candidate that season.
She spent her final season as a member of the Javelina coaching staff.
She received a bachelor’s degree in health and kinesiology from TAMUK.
She was a graduate assistant coach at Tarleton State after finishing at TAMUK and received her master’s degree in health and kinesiology from the school.
Ihemelu went to Blinn College for one semester where she was the assistant volleyball coach and then went to Cedar Hill High School last fall as an assistant volleyball coach. Cedar Hill won its district title.
She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Baldwin Ihemelu of Cedar Hill.
