Carlos Saldana lettered in football in 1965-68 and was a member of Lone Star Conference championship teams in 1967 and 1968. He was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 1992.

The 1967 Javelina team was the first undefeated, untied squad in the school’s history.

The 1968 Javelina team was NAIA national runner-up.

Saldana, a team captain in 1968, was on the all-conference team in 1966, 1967 and 1968 and on the All-Texas squad in 1966-68. He was selected to the school’s all-decade squad for the 1960s.

While at Texas A&I, Saldana taught an inorganic chemistry lab. He received his doctorate of dental surgery degree from the University of Texas Dental School in Houston in 1973.

A dentist in the U.S. Army for the past 18 years, Saldana holds the rank of Colonel. He was in the hospital dental clinic at Fort Polk (La.) in 1973-75, was at Camp Humphreys in Korea in 1975-76, was in the oral surgery clinic at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio in 1976-78, was stationed at Fort Knox in Kentucky in 1978-80 and was the officer in charge of general dentistry at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., in 1980-83.

Saldana was the officer in charge of Coleman Barracks in Mannheim, Germany, in 1983-87 and has been stationed at Fort Lewis (Wash.) since 1987. He is the officer in charge of the dental clinic at Madigan Army Medical Center.

In addition to his military duties, Saldana is a Cub master and leader in the Boy Scouts of America. He is active in his church activities.

Saldana, who played high school football at Laredo St. Joseph’s, is married and he and his wife, Gloria, have three children: Juan Carlos, Omar and Monica.
