Javelina Hall of Fame
Michael Hawkins, from Van Vleck, was on the Javelina football teams in 1974-77. During that span, the team compiled a 46-1-1 record and he was a part of the squads that put together a 42-game victory streak. He was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 1994.
In his freshman season, Hawkins was selected as the most valuable player in the NAIA national championship game. He received All-America honors after his senior season.
He was All-LSC in 1976 and 1977, and served as a team captain in 1977.
Hawkins became the second member of his family to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. A brother, Andy, was inducted in 1991.
The Javelina standout played with the New England Patriots, Los Angeles Raiders and Houston Gamblers in 1978-85. He currently is an operator technician for Occidental Chemical Corp. in Bay City.
Hawkins is married to the former Mildred Jones of Robstown and the couple has three children: Adrian, Michael and Fredrick.
