Jeff St. Clair was a member of the Javelina men’s basketball team in the 1970s and still ranks as one of the all-time leading scorers and rebounders. He was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 2000.
St. Clair, a native of Westminster, Calif., played two seasons with the Javelina team after transferring from Golden West Junior College.
In his junior season, he set a school record by averaging 11 rebounds a game, and he was the second leading scorer with a 15.6 average.
St. Clair hit .531 from the field his junior year and was on the All-Lone Star Conference second team. He ranked ninth in the LSC in scoring, fifth in rebounding and seventh in field-goal shooting.
In his senior season, St. Clair captured three of the four LSC statistical titles. He was the leading scorer with 28.8 points per game and he led the rebounding with a 13.9 average. His field-goal percentage also led the league a .603.
His 28.8 scoring average was the third best ever in the LSC.
St. Clair was ninth in the NAIA national scoring.
He set three school season records and established three two-year career marks. He also equaled a single-game standard. His single-game record came when he got 25 rebounds against East Texas State, tying the school mark. His 344 rebound broke the record he set as a junior and his rebound average erased the school mark in that category. He set a season record for field-goal percentage (.603) and his two-year career records were for best field-goal percentage (.574), most rebounds (633) and best rebound average (12.4).
St. Clair was on the NAIA All-District and All-LSC teams and he also made the LSC all-academic squad.
St. Clair’s 28.8 average in 1974-75 still ranks as the fifth best in the LSC and the 690 points scored that year is the third best ever for a Javelina player.
He received his degree in history and physical education in 1976 and has done post-graduate work at Long Beach (Calif.) State.
He taught in Orange County in California before going to work for Chevron, where he has been for the past 20 years. He has received the President’s Award from the company and currently supervises 25 people and a $300 million budget.
St. Clair is married to the former Pamela Milford and their children are Samantha and Courtney. They reside in Bakersfield, Calif.
