Javelina Hall of Fame
Gene Rogers was on the Javelina football teams in the early 1950s and was inducted in 1988 as much for his work for the Texas A&I athletic department after leaving the school as for his performances with the Javelinas.
Rogers was recognized for his unique contributions to the athletic program during his years as a high school coach.
He was a guard for the Javelina teams in the early 1950s and after leaving the University, he became head coach at Agua Dulce High School where his teams established the state’s longest undefeated string.
Rogers later coached at Magnolia, Alice, Bishop and Killeen, and his success was recognized with his induction into the Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
He has had several of his products play for the Javelinas and one of these is Don Hardeman, who was an All-American in college and later was a first round draft choice of the Houston Oilers.
