Javelina Hall of Fame
Gerald Pargmann was a two-sport standout with the Javelinas. From Runge, he joined the Javelinas in 1962 as an end with the football team and also saw action as a linebacker during his career. He was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 1982.
The agricultural mechanics major lettered four years in football and was a captain in 1965. He was the team’s leading receiver in 1964.
Gil Steinke, head football coach, said of Pargmann, “Give me 30 men like Pargmann and we will play anybody”.
Pargmann’s greatest recognition came in track and field where he was a javelin thrower. He won the LSC titles in 1964 and 1965. His best of 234-8 still ranks as the best ever in the LSC, the LSC meet record and the best ever for a Texas A&I athlete.
