Sheryl Campbell was a member of the Javelina women’s basketball team in the early 1980s when it enjoyed some of its greatest success.  She was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 2000.

Campbell, from San Antonio, played with the Javelinas for four seasons and was an All-Lone Star Conference honoree.  She finished her career as one of the LSC’s top scorers and assist leaders.

She was named to the All-LSC tournament team and was presented the Gil E. Steinke Award as the Female Athlete of the Year her senior season.

Campbell scored 437 points in 1982-83 and that ranks as the ninth best season scoring average ever.  She had 374 points in 1981-82 and this is No. 16 on the all-time chart.

Her single-game high came in 1980-81 when she hit 32 against St. Edward’s.

Campbell played on the 1982-83 team that finished second in the Lone Star Conference and was selected to participate in the NCAA Division II national playoffs, becoming the first athletic group from the school to take part in an NCAA playoff.  The squad was runner-up in the regional tournament.

She received her bachelor of science degree in physical education in 1984 and has taught physical education and health education in San Antonio since August 1985.  She also has coached basketball and tennis.

Campbell is currently treasurer of the Parent-Teacher Association and serves as the female athletic coordinator at Rhodes Middle School.  She has been the young adult ministry treasurer at the West End Baptist Church in San Antonio for the past five years.
