Javelina Hall of Fame
Fred Nuesch has served as the sports information director for the Javelinas for 27 years. He was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 1994.
He joined the Javelina staff in 1968 as sports information director. A native of Malvern, Ark., he holds a bachelor’s degree from Henderson State in Arkansas and a master’s degree from the University of Missouri.
He has been assistant athletic director for the past five years and during his tenure at the university, he has been news service director and an instructor in journalism.
His athletic publications have received more than 100 awards and citations.
Nuesch is in his 15th year as secretary of the College Sports Information Directors of America and he edits the association’s monthly newsletter.
He was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1979 and was inducted into the CoSIDA Hall of Fame in 1983. He was inducted into the Paris Junior College Hall of Fame in 1993 and has received the Henderson State Distinguished Alumnus Award.
Nuesch was the recipient of the CoSIDA Warren Berg Award in 1985. He was the first recipient of the award, which goes to the college division sports information director selected as the best in the field for a particular year.
Nuesch is a past president of the NAIA Sports Information Directors Association and he was named the NAIA Sports Information Director of the Year in 1981. He has received the NAIA Award of Merit twice.
He served as night manager of the Main Press Center at the XXIII Olympic Games in Los Angeles and was a press officer at the U.S. Olympic Festival in Houston in 1986. He served as a press officer at the 1987 World University Games in Yugoslavia, at the 1990 Goodwill Games in Seattle and at the U.S. Olympic Festival in San Antonio in 1993.
Nuesch holds memberships in numerous organizations and is a past president of the Kingsville Rotary Club. He is married to the former Joan Howe of Kingsville.
