Javelina Hall of Fame
One of the most decorated student-athletes in Javelina history, Garza was an 11-time All-American on the gridiron and as a track and field thrower from 1999-2001. A three-time All-LSC first team recipient (1998-2000), he was crowned LSC Lineman of the Year in 1999 and 2000. He was the 1999 and 2000 captain on the football team and as a thrower, won the national championship in indoor and outdoor in the shot put in 2000. A four-time track and field All-American, he holds the school shot put record (60-0) and has the fourth best discus mark (175-9). He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2001 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons and spent four seasons with the club. In 2005, he went to the Chicago Bears and was on a starter on the offensive line through 2014. He was heard on ESPN Deportes last season.
Garza was inducted into the LSC Hall of Honor and Latin American International Sports Hall of Fame and December 2 is known as Roberto Garza Day in Rio Hondo, Texas. He is married to former Javelina volleyball player and track and field athlete Ashley Golden.
