Javelina Hall of Fame
One of the most accomplished student-athletes in the classroom, Whitmer received first team academic All-America honors three consecutive seasons. Already a Hall of Fame member with the 1975 and 1976 teams, Whitmer was also a three-time LSC All-Academic recipient. From Houston, he is a highly successful orthopedic surgeon in the Houston and East Texas area. The 1977 NAIA A.O. Duer Award winner (academic excellence), he was a member of two national championship squads. Beginning his Javelina career with back-to-back NAIA titles (1975-76), the Javelinas went a perfect 25-0 and won back-to-back conference championships. In 1977, the club went 8-1-1 in the first season under Fred Jonas, earning a share of the LSC crown.
