Javelina Hall of Fame
Emil Tagliabue was a sportswriter and sports editor of the Corpus Christi Caller-Times who reported Javelina sports for more than 25 years. He was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 1997.
He was named the Lone Star Conference sportswriter of the year in 1972.
Tagliabue followed the Javelinas throughout the United States and Mexico and covered numerous national football championship teams and dozens of Javelina All-Americans.
A native of Victoria, he was a writer for the Victoria Advocate and San Antonio Express-News as well as the Caller-Times. He was on the Caller-Times staff for more than 40 years before his retirement in 1995. He served as sports editor of the Corpus Christi Times until it ceased publication in 1987.
Tagliabue died in August of 1996.
He was selected as the Texas High School Coaches Association Sports Writer of the Year in 1974. He was inducted into the Coastal Bend Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1991 and is the only sportswriter so honored by the association.
Tagliabue was inducted into the Corpus Christi Miller High School Hall of Fame in 1996.
He was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in Victoria and attended Victoria College and St. Mary’s University.
Tagliabue’s wife, Charlene, accepted his Hall of Fame plaque. He is the father of twin sons, Stephen Tagliabue and Tom Tagliabue, and a daughter, Michele Tagliabue
