Javelina Hall of Fame
Edye Lea, from Alice, was a member of the Javelina track and field team for four years and became the first women’s first-team All- America honoree. She was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 2008.
She held school records in the shot put, javelin and discus when she concluded her career.
Lea participated on a U.S. amateur track and field team in China, Korea and Germany while at Texas A&I and was named the most valuable athlete at a meet in Monterrey, Mexico.
She has been a track and field coach at Pearsall High School since 1984 and she has received several awards. She received a certificate of honor for career victory achievement from the Texas Girls Coaches Association and has seven plaques from groups of athletes expressing their appreciation to her for helping them with their achievements.
Lea has served on the Region IV-3A track and field meet games committee and she has coached nine district champions and 10 state qualifiers.
An Edye Lea Day was held in her hometown and she received a proclamation from the city.
