The 1986 Javelina men’s and women’s cross country teams won Lone Star Conference championships and the men’s squad captured the NCAA Division II South Central Region title.

The women finished second in the regional championship.

The Javelinas beat Abilene Christian, 32-33, to take the conference championship and the women guided in front of ACU, 28-47.

In the regional meet, the Javelinas downed Abilene Christian, 51-74, to take the title.
The Javelina men’s squad advanced to the NCAA Division II National Championships and finished 12th against the nation’s top teams.

Liberty (Va.) edged out the women’s team, 43-50, for the women’s regional trophy.
Andrea Ratkovic of Corpus Christi (Flour Bluff) took the LSC individual title and was third in the regional meet.

Selina Armstrong of Yoakum was third in the LSC competition.

David Garcia of Corpus Christi (Carroll) was the top individual for the Javelina men at conference, finishing third.

Members of the men’s team, in addition to Garcia, are David Alvarez of Mission, Ernie Bueno of Alice, Rey Carreon of Poteet, Orlando Gonzalez of Corpus Christi (Carroll), Simon Guerrero of Austin (Travis), Raymond Rocha of Cuero and Stacey Whitt of Alvord.

On the women’s team along with Ratkovic and Armstrong are Julie Brown of Portland (Gregory-Portland), Gloria Lopez of Corpus Christi (Carroll), Isabel Mascorro of Castroville (Medina Valley), Prescilla Perez of Mission, Eloise Segovia of Placios and Debbra Stuart of Devine.

Vonn Murray was head coach of the cross country program.
