Robert Young has been associated with the Javelinas as a player and coach. He was on the football team in 1969 and 1970 after being an All-America performer at Blinn Junior College. He was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 1983.

He is a native of Houston and played at Klein High School. He is currently a member of the coaching staff at Klein Forest and has coached at Victoria High School and Riviera High School as well as at Texas A&I.

He made the Associated Press Little All-America and NAIA All-America teams and was all-conference twice. He was named the LSC lineman of the year in 1969 and was named the outstanding player in the NAIA national championship game in 1970.

Young was also on the Houston All-College Team in 1969 and made the All-Texas College team twice.

He was selected to the Texas A&I team of the decade for the 1960s despite having played only two years.

Young returned to Texas A&I in 1978 as defensive coordinator and held that position for four years. He was with the 1979 team that won national and conference titles.

He played on Javelina teams that compiled a 22-2-0 record.
