Javelina Hall of Fame
One of the most dominant teams in Javelina cross country history, the men's cross country team took home the gold medal at the 1984 Lone Star Conference championship with 34 points and a whopping 22 point differential. For reference, Abilene Christian won the silver medal at the tournament with 56 points.
Felix Horta, senior from El Campo, was fourth in the LSC meet and Doug Erickson, junior from Phoenix, Ariz., finished fifth. Simon Guerrero, sophomore from Austin (Travis), was seventh; Tony Parisi, freshman from San Antonio (Roosevelt), eighth and Stacey Whitt, sophomore from Alvord, 10th.
The team finished second at the NCAA South-Central Regional meet, edged out by Troy by just a single point for the gold medal.
All-LSC selections for the men were Horta, Erickson, Guerrero, Parisi and Whitt.
On the women's side, the Javelinas would finish third at the conference tournament. Andrea Ratkovic, freshman from Corpus Christi (Flour Bluff), was fourth in the women's LSC meet. Janice Simmons, senior from Galveston (Ball), was fifth and Gloria Perez, freshman from Corpus Christi (Carroll), 10th.
All -LSC selections for the women were Ratkovic, Simmons and Lopez.
