The 1995 Javelina baseball team won the program’s first-ever LSC Championship in its third year of existence at Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Hogs had been picked to finish fifth in the LSC Preseason Poll and finished the year ranked No. 24 in the NCAA Division II national poll.

Head coach of the team was Hector Salinas, who passed away earlier this year in April, as the team also had the program’s first ever NCAA Division II First Team All-America honoree in Juan Sanchez from the ABCA who was also named the Regional Player of the Year.

Both Sanchez and Mario Flores were also named First Team All-Region as Sanchez was named LSC Player of the Year, joined by Salinas as LSC Coach of the Year and Rick Sandate as LSC Freshman and Pitcher of the Year. In total, Sanchez, Flores, Sandate, Asmel Acum, Abel Montilla and Gabriel Perez were named First Team All-LSC.

The team finished 35-14 that season, including a win over NCAA Division I foe UT Pan American, now known as UTRGV.
