Javelina Hall of Fame
Martin Stroman was an All-Lone Star Conference quarterback who led the Javelinas to a national championship in 1979. He was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 1997.
He played with the Javelinas in 1976-79. In his senior season, the team captured the NAIA national title and he was named the most valuable offensive player in the title game in McAllen.
He was All-LSC twice and was selected the LSC player of the week on numerous occasions.
Stroman was a captain of the 1979 team.
In his four seasons with the Javelinas, the team compiled a 39-7-0 record, won three LSC championships, took two NAIA national trophies and consistently ranked No. 1 in the NAIA.
Stroman completed 185 of 379 passes for 2,990 yards in his four seasons and he rushed 493 times for 1,916 yards. He threw for 22 touchdowns and ran for 26.
He led the team in passing in 1978 and 1979 and was the scoring leader in 1978 with 72 points.
In his senior season, he completed 78 of 162 passes for 1,264 yards, or 114.9 yards a game, and he rushed for 765 yards, or 69.6 yards a game.
The Javelinas took the LSC rushing and total offense titles in Stroman’s senior year and took the total offense championship in his junior season.
Stroman, from Rockdale, is currently the head golf pro at Longwood Golf Club in Cypress. He has held that position since 1995.
Previously, he was assistant golf pro from 1982-94 and a credit manager in 1980-81. He was elected to membership in the Professional Golf Association in 1991.
Stroman is married to the former Kathy Wendt of Houston and they have a daughter, Makenzie. His father, Leo Stroman, was also a Javelina football athlete, playing in the mid-1950s.
