Ed Gorny, who is on the faculty in the Bishop Independent School District, has been the football announcer for the Javelina home games for the past 30 years and has been the starter for the Javelinas home track and field meets, the TAMUK regional qualifiers meet, the Region IV-3A boys and girls track and field meets and the Lone Star Conference Championships held in Kingsville during the same span.  He was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 2004.

A native of Hanson, Mass., Gorny has announced numerous NCAA Division II, NAIA and high school playoff games in Javelina Stadium.

He attended Quincy (Mass.) Junior College and the State College of Bridgewater (Mass.).  He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966-70 and worked for civil service until 1974.

Gorny attended Texas A&I from 1974-76 and was certified to teach health, physical education and biology.  He began his teaching career at Bishop High School in 1976, serving as athletic director and head football coach.
 
He has twice been selected “teacher of the year” by Texas Scholars and has been nominated as one of the state’s outstanding teachers.  He has started 350-plus track meets and over 100 of these have been in Javelina Stadium.

In addition to announcing the Javelina home games, he has been the voice of the Bishop Badgers for 15 years.

He was named the 2003 Professional of the Year by the Bishop Chamber of Commerce.

Gorny is the son of Joan Gorny and the late Ed Gorny of Massachusetts.
