Andy Hawkins, one of three brothers to play football for the Javelinas, was on the team in 1976-79. He was named to the Associated Press’ Little All-America and Kodak All-America first teams in 1979. He was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 1992.

He was selected the Lone Star Conference lineman of the year in 1979, was NAIA All-District, was on the LSC all-academic squad and was selected the most valuable player in the NAIA semifinal playoff game.

Hawkins played on NAIA national championship teams in 1976 and 1979, and was on three LSC title squads. The Javelinas posted a 39-7-1 record in Hawkins’ four seasons with the club.

He played with brother, Mike, on the 1976 and 1977 teams, and brother, Tim, joined the Javelinas in the early 1980s.

Hawkins played high school football at Van Vleck.

He was selected by his teammates as the most valuable defensive player in 1978 and 1979 and was elected a team captain in 1979.

Since leaving Texas A&I, Hawkins played four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, two years with the San Diego Chargers, two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs and two years with the Houston Gamblers of the USFL.

He currently is an engineering assistant/designer for Hoechst Celanese in Bay City. He and his wife, Sherry, reside in Bay City.
