An associate of Texas A&M-Kingsville for decades, Cusack began working with the Javelinas in 1966 before working as a circulation manager for the Kingsville record until 1976.

Following that, Cusack would work at the game-room center in 1976. During this time, Cusack served as the Director of Cheerleading, beginning in 1981. In 1982, Cusack would be given the position of Assistant Director of the Memorial Student Union Building.
