Javelina Hall of Fame
Jermane Mayberry was an All-America offensive lineman for the Javelinas in 1993-95. He was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 2003.
Mayberry, from Floresville, became one of the Javelinas’ most honored athletes during his three seasons with the club. In his senior season, he was on the Associated Press Little All-America, American Football Coaches Association; NCAA Division II All-America and Football Gazette/USA Today All-America first teams.
He was selected as the Lone Star Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year and was on the All-LSC and NCAA Division II All-West Region lineups.
Mayberry was selected for the Senior Bowl.
He was also All-Lone Star Conference first team as a sophomore and junior.
During his three seasons with the squad, the Javelinas were 30-10-0 and won three consecutive Lone Star Conference titles. The Javs were in the NCAA Division II post-season playoffs each year and reached the championship game in 1994 and was a semifinalist in 1993 and 1995.
Mayberry was drafted in the first round of the National Football League selections by the Philadelphia Eagles and he has been a starter for the squad since.
In Philadelphia, he has been an All-Pro selection and participated in the Pro Bowl game in February. He has started 36 of the last 37 Eagle games.
Mayberry suffers from amblyopia, an underdeveloped optic nerve in his left eye. He contributed $112,500 to help start a vision-testing program sponsored by Eagles Youth Partnership, the charitable wing of the Eagles. This program, which has operated in conjunction with Wills Eye Hospital of Philadelphia since 1996, circulates the Eagles Eye Mobile to Philadelphia-area schools.
Over the past six years, more than 6,200 students have been provided free on-site eye exams. More than half of those students received free prescription eyeglasses while others were referred to Wills Eye Hospital for treatment of more serious eye ailments.
For his efforts, Mayberry received the NFL’s Extra Effort Award in December 1996. He has also received special recognition from Prevent Blindness Massachusetts, the Philadelphia Chapter of the NFL Alumni Association and the Sporting News.
Mayberry is married and he and his wife Danielle live in Austin with their son, Jermane.
