He was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 1976.

He had the 10th best season scoring average (24.4) in LSC history and is the fourth leading scorer for a season with his 561 points in 1961-62.

Shirk had 41 points twice in single games and these rank as the fourth best single-game performances ever for an A&I player.

He held most of the A&I single-game, season and career records for a long period after finishing his career and still has the best career scoring average (20.8) and best career rebounding average (9.4) on the A&I record books.

While at A&I, Shirk was selected to play on an NAIA all-star team that met the Russian all-star team in a series. He was a member of the “T” Association.

Shirk currently is coaching in Ladoga, Ind.
