Javelina Hall of Fame
Wilie Gipson, from Refugio, is currently a principal at Henderickson High School in Pflugerville. He was a student trainer for the Javelinas in 1968-72 and after graduation was the head trainer at King High School in Kingsville from 1973-76. He was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 2008.
Gipson spent the summer of 1976 as an assistant trainer for the Seattle Seahawks and then took over the head athletic training position at Texas A&I in 1976.
Gipson left in 1979 to serve as safety and training supervisor for the Western Company of North America before returning to the Javelinas in 1983.
He was the trainer at King High School again in 1985-88 before becoming a State Farm Insurance agent in Austin in 1988-89.
Gipson was a teacher and coach in the Austin Independent School District in 1989- 90 and became a grade level principal at Pflugerville High School in 1990. While at Pflugerville, he was an education instructor at Austin Community College.
He moved to Henderickson High School in 2004 as a grade level principal and after two years went to Wakeland High School in Frisco where he was an assistant principal.
He returned to Pflugerville recently for a principal’s position at Henderickson.
Gipson has served on the board of directors of the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals and has been on several committees with the TASSP.
He was a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and Southwest Athletic Trainers Association while an athletic trainer.
Gipson has received an outstanding educator award and has been named an Outstanding Young Man in America.
While at Texas A&I, the Javelinas won four national football championships. He has been recognized with a 15-year service award by the University Interscholastic League and has 10-year service awards from the University of Texas Track & Field Association and the AAU Track and Field Team.
He holds both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas A&I.
Gipson is married and he and his wife, Jan, are the parents of daughters Christiane Noah, Rhonda Upah and Heather Hover and sons Michael Ransdell and Joe Gipson.
