Javelina Hall of Fame
Durwood Roquemore was an All-America defensive back for the Javelinas in the early 1980s. He was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame in 2002.
Roquemore was a defensive back for the Javelinas in 1978-81. He played on teams that compiled a 34-12-0 record and won the 1979 NAIA national championship.
He was an NAIA All-America first team honoree twice and was on the All-Lone Star Conference first unit two times.
Roquemore was NAIA All-District and on the All-Texas Sports squad.
He was a captain of the 1981 team.
Roquemore majored in communications and minored in psychology at Texas A&I.
He went with the Kansas City Chiefs after finishing his career with the Javelinas and was there for three seasons. He was with the Houston Gamblers of the United States Football League in 1985 and played for the Buffalo Bills in 1987 and 1988.
Roquemore became affiliated with the Arena Football League in 1987 and played with the Chicago Bruisers and the Albany Firebirds for three years before going with the Orlando Predators as a player/coach in 1991. He held that position for six years.
He was defensive coordinator of the Albany Firebirds in 1997 and held the same position with the Houston Thunderbirds in 1998-99. He was the head coach and director of football operations for the Richmond Speed in 1999 and 2000.
Roquemore is currently the athletic director, head coach and dean of students at Cyber Charter High School in Sanford, Fla.
He has been inducted into the Arena Football League Hall of Fame and was named to the Arena Bowl all-time team in 1998. He was on the AFL 10th anniversary team in 1996.
Roquemore was selected to the All-Arena Football League first team five times, made four Arena Bowl appearances and is the career leader in interceptions, tackles, assists and passes defended.
He is a boys youth group counselor for his church, is a spokesperson for the Orlando D.A.R.E. program, serves as a youth football clinic instructor in Orlando, has participated in Partners in Education program in Orlando and was a volunteer in the Boys Club of Dallas in 1982-84.
