KINGSVILLE, Texas – Both the Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball program and the women's tennis program turned in a solid finish to the end of each respective spring breaks, and as a result the junior duo of
Seth Spinn (Holland, Texas) and
Julia Rauer (Leiselheim, Germany) were honored with the IBC Bank Player of the Week awards.
For the Javelinas on the diamond, Spinn hit .476 in a 4-1 week and had a hand in nearly every phase of the game. The transfer from Temple College tallied 10 hits to extend his hitting streak to 11 games and raised his season average to a blistering .411 following the weekend.
Spinn posted a pair of doubles and his third triple of the season, scored a team-leading 14 runs, drove in seven RBI, drew six walks for a .593 on-base percentage, was successful on all six of his stolen base attempts to push his total to 14 on the year, and was perfect in the field in six chances.
For the 2019 campaign, the Holland, Texas, native leads the team with 40 hits in 95 at bats, alongside seven doubles and three triples for a .558 slugging percentage, 33 runs, 18 RBI and 19 walks for a .513 OBP.
Rauer, meanwhile, went 5-0 to close out the spring break trip following wins over Mathilde Simon from Charleston and Nicole Reich from Palm Beach Atlantic. She is currently best on the team with a 9-1, including a perfect 7-0 at the fifth singles flight, as all nine of her wins came in straight sets.
The efforts from the Leiselheim, Germany, native have resulted in the Javelinas landing at No. 37 in the latest ITA rankings released earlier this week, with a 6-4 mark so far on the season prior to the start of Lone Star Conference play.
The Javelina baseball program will take on No. 5/3 West Texas A&M this weekend with Friday's doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. CT at Nolan Ryan Field, while the tennis program will host two matches, one against Trinity on Saturday, March 23, before opening up the LSC schedule against Western New Mexico on Sunday, March 24.
