Detmer Jr. and Brabham named IBC Bank Players of the Week

Detmer Jr. tallied five total touchdowns in Javelina debut; Brabham picks up second honor of year

KINGSVILLE, Texas – A thrilling weekend of play for both the Texas A&M-Kingsville football and volleyball programs highlighted the most recent iteration of the IBC Bank Players of the Week as junior transfer Koy Detmer Jr. (Somerset, Texas) and senior right-side Madison Brabham (Kingwood, Texas) were the two honored for the second week of the season.

The award is given weekly to the top men's and women's performer of the previous week across all actively competing programs in the TAMUK athletic department.

Brabham grabbed her second honor after hitting .200 during the second preseason tournament of the 2018 campaign for Javelina volleyball. Brabham averaged 3.13 kills and 4.27 assists per set as the Blue and Gold took a 2-2 record away from the Barry University Classic.

The senior put away at least 12 kills in three of the four matches on the weekend, swatting 14 in the five-set loss to Saginaw Valley State before adding 12 each against Barry and Southern Connecticut State.

The Kingwood, Texas, native added three double-doubles as well as she put away 16 assists against SVSU, another 11 against the host Buccaneers, and 12 against the Owls. Brabham added a season-best 25 assists in the win over Bridgeport to round out the weekend.

Detmer Jr. notched his first weekly award after a strong debut for the No. RV Hogs on the gridiron in a double-overtime thriller against top-ranked A&M-Commerce to open up the season.

The transfer from BYU threw for 320 yards in a 37-36 loss to the Lions and was responsible for all five Javelina touchdowns. Detmer Jr. tallied four scores through the air and another on the ground.

The Somerset, Texas, native found 11 different receivers during the game, including six catches each from senior Ty Chisum (Eagle Pass, Texas) and redshirt-junior Aaron Dilworth (Corpus Christi, Texas) alongside three combined touchdowns from the pair.
Detmer Jr. ran his lone score on the ground for the first overtime before connecting with Dilworth in the second extra frame.

Both the Javelina volleyball and football programs return to Kingsville this weekend as the volleyball team will open LSC play at home against Western New Mexico and UT Permian Basin. The football team will host the first of seven home games at Pepsi Field at Javelina Stadium on Saturday when Texas Wesleyan pays a visit.
