KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball and football programs ended their seasons on a high note this past weekend as senior
Madison Brabham (Kingwood, Texas) and redshirt-sophomore
Tre'Michael Tutt (Channel View, Texas) both took home the IBC Bank Player of the Week awards to wrap the third month of play.
Brabham added a slew of trophies to her collection over the past week as she was named the Lone Star Conference Player of the Year prior to the start of the conference tournament. The award capped off a prominent banquet for the Kingwood H.S. prospect as she was also named the LSC Offensive Player of the Year and earned a spot on both the All-Academic and All-LSC first teams leading up to the quarterfinal matchup against Angelo State.
Against the Rambelles, Brabham assembled a .429 hitting percentage on her way to her 14th triple-double of the year behind 21 kills, 18 assists and 12 digs while leading the Javelinas to a five-set win. She also added three block assists while committing only three errors in the match.
Brabham followed that up with her NCAA-leading 15th triple-double in a heartbreaking five-set loss to No. 22 A&M-Commerce in the LSC semifinal match. She put away 12 kills, 21 assists and 13 digs to wrap up her senior campaign as she ended the 2018 slate with nine triple-doubles in the last 10 TAMUK contests.
She ended her career fifth in program history with 1151 kills, compiled a .222 hitting percentage on a career-high .268 during the 2018 season, and averaged 3.68 kills per set this year to bring her career total up to 2.42. She also added career bests in assists with 562, digs with 296 and points with 514.
For the football program, Tutt led the defensive unit with 14 tackles, 10 solo and two for loss, to go with a forced fumble in a 24-21 senior day win for the Javelinas over UT Permian Basin. He was instrumental in the final drive of the game that resulted in an intercepted pass from Kameron Mathis as he made three tackles on the drive leading up to the game-ending interception from senior
Sean Landez (Mission, Texas).
On the year, Tutt leads the defense with 89 tackles, 49 solo, along with 12 tackles for loss, two sacks, one pass breakup and one QB hurry. He currently ranks sixth in the Lone Star Conference in total tackles, third in solo tackles and ninth in tackles for loss to close out the year.
Both the Javelina volleyball and football programs are done for the year. The 2019 football schedule as already been announced while the 2019 volleyball schedule will be released later in the spring.
