KINGSVILLE, Texas – Following her dominant performance in the season-opening tournament for the Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball program, senior
Madison Brabham (Kingwood, Texas) took home the first IBC Bank Player of the Week Award of the 2018-19 season.
The award is given weekly to the top men's and women's performer of the previous week across all actively competing programs in the TAMUK athletic department.
Brabham took the honor after leading the Javelinas to a 3-1 mark at the Kathleen Brasfield Invitational on the campus of Angelo State on August 24-25. The Blue and Gold bested New Mexico Highlands in four sets before taking a split on the day following a loss to No. RV Arkansas-Fort Smith.
The Javelinas would rebound with identical four-set wins over St. Mary's (TX) and East Central to close out the weekend.
The Kingwood H.S. prospect reached double-digit kills in all four matches, including 22 on a .439 swing percentage in the season opener against the Cowgirls. She added 10 more in the loss to the Lions before tallying 16 and 17 against the Rattlers and the Tigers, respectively.
Brabham hit at least a .300 clip in all three of the Javelinas wins and added a double-double in each instance as well. She added 16 assists against NMHU, another 19 against StMU and 15 against ECU. She came close to the triple-double mark twice in that span as she added nine digs against the Cowgirls before getting another eight against the Rattlers.
Following the weekend, Brabham was named the LSC Offensive Player of the Week for the first week of the season and was named to the Brasfield All-Tournament team alongside freshman defensive specialist
Nicole Murff (San Antonio, Texas).
The Javelinas return to action this week in Miami for the Barry University Classic. The Blue and Gold will see Saginaw Valley State, Barry, Southern Connecticut and Bridgeport over the weekend to close out preseason tournament play.
