Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville passed the athletic fee referendum to increase funding for Javelina Athletics, the University announced on Friday.
With 950 votes to support the referendum from the Texas A&M-Kingsville student body, Javelina Athletics were able to pass an increase in athletic fees for future students to $35 from the previously instituted $20.
"We are very appreciative of the student body for supporting this referendum," said Athletic Director Michael Salinas. "This is a win for athletics and our entire University as we continue our mission to transform TAMUK. We look forward to bringing this initiative before the A&M System Board of Regents for their approval"

This referendum was voted on by over 1,500 students at Texas A&M-Kingsville, with the 950 votes of approval representing 63% of the voting base. The new increase to the athletic fee will now be sent to the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents for final review and approval.
"This will allow us the opportunity to enhance the university experience for our campus community and the communities we serve," said Salinas. "I want to extend my appreciation to the Student Government Association and Dr. Rito Silva for their efforts in bringing this referendum before the student body."
