KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball and cross country programs concluded a thrilling week of play as seniors
Madison Brabham (Kingwood, Texas) and
Ricky Medrano (Pearsall, Texas) led the way and came back with the sixth weekly honor for the IBC Bank Players of the Week.
Brabham powered the Javelina volleyball program to a 1-1 record on the week with consecutive triple doubles against West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico to bring her season total up to four. The Kingwood, Texas, native fired off 19 kills, 23 assists and 10 digs in a five-set loss to the Lady Buffs before she tallied 14 kills, 22 assists and 11 digs in a four-set win over the Greyhounds.
On the year, Brabham is leading the team with 252 points on 216 kills, second with 280 assists and third with 129 digs. Among Lone Star Conference programs, the Kingwood H.S. product is third in kills per set at 3.43.
This marks the third time Brabham has been named the IBC Bank Player of the Week as she also took home the first two iterations of the award.
Medrano led the Javelina cross country program with a fourth place finish at the Concordia Invitational on Saturday as he completed the 8k course in 27:54.12 to lead the men's team to a second-place finish. Medrano was one of three TAMUK members to place in the top 15 in the race.
This marks the second time Medrano has placed in the top-15 as he took 11th at the Orville Rogers Cross Country Opener 8k with a time of 27:06.3. At the Texas A&M Invitational back on Sept. 22, Medrano took 80th with a time of 27:05.20.
The Javelina volleyball program will hit the road this week to take on Cameron and MSU Texas in LSC play. The TAMUK cross country program will have the weekend off before returning to action on Oct. 12 to compete in the Ranger College Invitational to wrap the regular season races.
