KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville men's and women's basketball programs turned in a solid week for the holiday break, and as a result the duo of redshirt sophomore
Jamell Bradley (Converse, Texas) and junior
Brynae Thompson (Houston, Texas) were named the IBC Bank Players of the Week for their performances on the hardwood.
Bradley led the Javelinas to a perfect 2-0 week with wins over Texas A&M International and No. 21/14 St. Edward's to move to 3-2 on the year. The Converse, Texas, native connected for 16 points on 5-for-7 shooting, including a perfect mark from beyond the arc with three treys, and added five rebounds, three assists and one block for a 57-42 Hog win over the Dustdevils.
The transfer from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi followed that performance up with nine points and five rebounds in a thrilling 69-58 win over the Hilltoppers only a few days later. Bradley increased his scoring average to a team-leading 8.6 on a .500 mark from the field while raising his rebounding average to 3.8 per game.
For the women's team, Thompson once again led the Javelinas in scoring on the week as she averaged 17 points per game between the win against TAMIU and a loss to SEU. The Houston native piled on a season-high 24 points on 9-for-16 from the floor, made all three of the 3-pointers, and added seven rebounds and three steals in an 8-69 win against the Dustdevils.
Thompson followed up with a team-high 10 points in the 62-43 loss to St. Edward's over the weekend. On the year, she has lead the Blue and Gold in scoring in four straight contests for a season average of 14.4 on a .475 shooting clip. She is also averaging three rebounds per game and is second on the team with seven steals through five games.
The Javelina basketball programs will open the Lone Star Conference schedule this week with a trip north to Stephenville, Texas, to take on Tarleton on Thursday, November 29, with the women's tip off at 5:30 p.m. CT and the men's tipoff following at 7:30 p.m. CT. TAMUK will follow that game up with a contest against A&M-Commerce on Saturday, December 1, with the women's game at 2 p.m. CT and the men's at 4 p.m. CT.
