KINGSVILLE, Texas – Coming away with a stellar weekend of play on the hardwood, the Texas A&M-Kingsville men's and women's basketball programs each had a key contributor named IBC Bank Player of the Week following a handful of commanding performances in Lone Star Conference play.
Senior
Robert Stevenson (Houston, Texas) and junior
Danielle Meador (Corpus Christi, Texas) took home the honors as both led their respective programs to a perfect 2-0 mark last week with wins over Western New Mexico and UT Permian Basin.
Stevenson started his weekend for the Hogs with eight points, seven rebounds and three blocks in a 70-61 win over the Mustangs on January 17 in Silver City N.M. for the first LSC contest of the week. He followed that up with 12 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks in the 80-72 comeback win over the Falcons on January 19 to extend his streak to five games with at least two blocks per game.
On the year, the Houston native is averaging seven points on a .612 clip for the Blue and Gold, alongside 7.3 rebounds per game, 26 blocks and 10 steals. He currently leads the team in rebounds and blocks, and is fourth in scoring.
Meador posted her first double-double of the 2018-19 campaign with 11 points and 11 rebounds, coupled with three steals, in the hard-fought 64-62 win over the WNMU. She added 17 points and six boards in the 78-71 win over UTPB to get TAMUK back to .500 in LSC play while posting the fourth win in the last five contests.
The Corpus Christi, Texas, native raised her season averages to 8.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per game for the Javelinas as she is currently third in the team in both categories. In the LSC, Meador is seventh in free throw percentage as she is hitting her shots from the strip at a .824 clip.
Both basketball programs are back at the Steinke Physical Education Center this week to take on MSU Texas starting on January 24. The women will tip off at 5:30 p.m. while the men get started at 7:30 p.m. against the Mustangs.
