KINGSVILLE, Texas – Snapping a three-game skid, the Texas A&M-Kingsville men's basketball program made the trek north to Waco, Texas, on Saturday and came away with an 80-70 decision behind a career day from senior
Robert Stevenson (Houston, Texas).
Outside of the gym, former Javelina volleyball standout
Casey Klobedans (Boerne, Texas) was an important part of the Winter 2018 Commencement at TAMUK as she graduated magna cum laude to tie a bow on her career in Kingsville.
As a result, both Stevenson and Klobedans were named IBC Bank Players of the Week.
Stevenson put away 21 points and added nine rebounds to steal the show as the Javelinas powered past Arkansas Tech on Saturday at The Highlands, 80-70. His point total came on 9-of-11 shooting and easily bested his previous career-high of 12, a mark he had reached twice. The Houston native added three steals and contributed two blocked shots in the game.
On the year, the transfer from McLennan is averaging 7.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game on a 64.3% clip from the floor through 20.4 minutes. He currently leads the team in rebounding while also topping the blocks list with 13.
Klobedans wrapped her volleyball career in the fall of 2017 but still proved she was more than just a dominant performer on the floor. The Boerne, Texas, native was the 2014 Lone Star Conference co-Setter of the Year as a true freshman and finished her career as the program leader in assists with 4,922.
The Boerne-Samuel V. Champion H.S. product averaged 10.25 assists per set in four years for the Blue and Gold, was an All-LSC honorable mention as a freshman in 2014, First Team All-LSC and LSC All-Tournament in 2015, and two-time Second Team All-LSC selection in 2016 and 2017.
Klobedans graduated magna cum laude during the ceremonies on Friday, December 14, demonstrating the LSC All-Academic team honors in 2016 and 2017 were more than just for show.
The Javelina men's basketball program will tip off against St. Mary's on Wednesday, December 19, in San Antonio, while the volleyball program ended the 2018 campaign in the LSC Volleyball Championship Semifinals with a hard-fought loss to then-No. 22 A&M-Commerce.
