GAMES 40-42: First-Place Hogs Look to Earn the Season Sweep over Greyhounds

Texas A&M-Kingsville enters weekend series receiving votes in NCBWA poll and ranked No. 30 in CBN poll



PORTALES, N.M. (Baseball) –
#RV/30 Texas A&M University-Kingsville (24-15, 18-8 LSC) visits Eastern New Mexico University (13-23, 8-15 LSC) looking to extend its winning streak to seven games. The three-game series at Greyhound Field begins at 7 p.m. CT on April 17, followed by a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The Javelinas are 68-37 all-time against the Greyhounds after sweeping the four-game series at Nolan Ryan Field in mid-March.
 
Fresh off tossing eight shutout innings to extend his scoreless innings streak to 24.0, Ryan Scott (3-2) earned Lone Star Conference (LSC) and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) South Central Region Pitcher of the Week honors. The senior followed a 4.0 scoreless performance at nationally-ranked St. Mary's with 8.0 in his first career start to lead the Hogs to a 1-0 win over Cameron Saturday.
 
The Javelinas are currently ranked No. 5 in the NCWBA South Central Region after beginning the season third. The top six teams in the region will compete in the NCAA South Central Regional.
 
Putting up Zeros
Ryan Scott threw 12.0 scoreless innings last week, including eight shutout innings in his first career start (win over Cameron) to extend his scoreless innings streak to 24.0. Ryan Benitez and Matt Terrones continue to anchor the rotation with six wins apiece. Scott has a 1.67 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 32.1 innings and Weston Silverberg boasts a 1.33 ERA with four saves and 36 punchouts in 27.0 innings.

Scouting the Greyhounds
Eastern New Mexico is fifth in the tough LSC after taking the last game of a three-game set versus West Texas A&M University, 9-2, last week. Followed with a midweek win over the University of the Southwest (9-7), the Greyhounds are 13-23 overall in 2015. Justin Paul paces the squad with a .357 batting average and second with 27 RBI. As a team, ENMU has 17 long balls with Blake Cooper and Daniel Ward each entering the weekend with four. Charles Sandberg Jr. is batting .326 and is 7-of-11 on the bags. Chris Sanders and Clyde Kendrick are also over the .300 mark.
 
On the mound, Kendrick carries a 3.05 ERA in eight appearances – seven starts – with 43 punch outs in 36.0 innings. Cody Pope is 5-3 on the year and Zach Shank has allowed just four runs in 27.2 innings.
