San Angelo, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville bowed out of the Lone Star Conference tournament to Angelo State, 12-2, Monday from Foster Field.
The Javelinas (26-27, 25-25 LSC) could not carry the momentum from a dramatic game two victory into a series win, while the Rams (38-15, 36-14 LSC) plated double-digit runs for the second time in the series. The Javelinas got their first postseason win since 2022, but failed to advance in the LSC tournament for the fifth consecutive postseason appearance.
First blood was drawn by the Javelinas for the first time this series, as an RBI-single from
Nick Reyes would score
Easton Hewitt from second base to give the Hogs an early lead. Angelo State answered right back in the first with a run of their own, making it a 1-1 ball game.
Clark Scallon kept the Rams off the scoreboard in the second for his second inning of work to maintain the tie. Texas A&M-Kingsville threatened in the top of the third, placing runners on the corner after a bloop-single from
Jayden Martinez with one out. The Javelinas could not capitalize however, as a double-play ended the inning for the Javelinas.Â
Angelo State punished the Hogs right after, plating six runs to go up big through the early goings. Five more runs came across home plate the following two half innings for the Rams as they threatened to run-rule the Javelinas in the winner-take-all contest.
The Javelinas would not go quietly however, as a leadoff single from
Cash Benavidez, followed by a double from
Nathan Gamez put two in scoring position quickly.
Jake Gann then lifted one into centerfield to score a run, but the Javelinas could not get any more runs across the plate as they dropped the series finale to Angelo State.
