San Angelo, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville will return to San Angelo to take on Angelo State in the first round of the Lone Star Conference tournament beginning on Saturday.
It will be the first time since the 2022 south-central regional that the longtime LSC foes will square off in the postseason and the first time in a decade that the Javelinas and Rams face off in the LSC tournament.
Saturday's contest will not be the first time the teams have squared off this season however, as Angelo State eventually took the series from the Javelinas in San Angelo. The Javelinas did take the opening game of the series however thanks to six innings of no-hitter baseball from Schumann.
The pitching staff for the Javelinas will need to continue their strong showing late in the season, holding West Texas A&M's offense to just 10 runs across the four game series to close out the regular season.
Zachary Wright was especially strong in his final start of the regular season, tossing his first career complete game and allowing just one run to come across home plate.
The Javelinas have also cranked up the deep ball this season, racking up 21 home runs AND 98 extra-base hits on the season.
Cash Benavidez leads the team with four homers,
Landon Salinas has tallied a team-high 12 doubles and
Nick Reyes sits in second place in the LSC with a team-best five triples.
Game one of the first round is set for 3:00 pm from Foster Field. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the action at JavelinaBSB on X.
Quick Hitters:
-
Garrett Nail finished his historic regular season with 85 strikeouts, officially giving him the strikeout title for the regular season.

- The Javelinas are the only team in the LSC to have eclipsed the 400 strikeout mark (401), good for ninth in the country in that mark.
- Despite the limited at bats,
Javier Benavides is having himself quite the season. Currently a .400 batter with 65 AB's, Benavides recorded his first triple of the season last week against West Texas A&M.
- Fellow catcher
Jayden Martinez is also having quite this season after returning from injury. Martinez is currently batting .419 while scoring four runs himself.
