KINGSVILLE, Texas (Tennis) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (12-7, 2-2 LSC) picked up conference win number two after drilling Western New Mexico University (3-14, 0-2 LSC) 9-0 on Friday morning at the new Javelina Tennis Courts.
Doubles scoring started with a 8-1 victory for Erika Larrea and Viviana Ortiz in flight No. 3. Valerie Ruiz and Victoria Romanovskaia won their sixth match of the season in the top flight 8-4, followed by an 8-5 triumphant second flight for Tabata Lua and Julia Rauer.Â
The Hogs took all of the singles matches highlighted by Rauer's straight sweep over Karina Diaz in flight four and Larrea's comeback win over Nadia Justiniano in No. 6 (3-6, 6-0, 6-0) for her ninth consecutive win. Stephanie Baerman handled business with a straight set win in the fifth flight, followed by three-set wins from Lisa Carvajal, Ruiz and Romanovskaia to complete the sweep.
TAMUK will have the weekend off before returning to their home courts on April 11 to face #12 St. Mary's University at 3 p.m. Senior Day will be April 14 in the clubs conference finale against Tarleton State at 11 a.m. to conclude the regular season.
