Odessa, TX – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team closed out the regular season in dominant fashion Friday afternoon, defeating UT Permian Basin 6-1 at the Bush Tennis Center to improve to 9-10 overall and 5-5 in Lone Star Conference play. The Javelinas now wait to see if they will punch their ticket to the LSC Tournament.
Kingsville came out firing on all cylinders, sweeping all three doubles courts to take the early 1-0 lead and set the tone for the afternoon. Andrea Landaeta and Annika Andersson Gomez got things started first, dominating at No. 2 with a 6-0 shutout. The No. 12-ranked pair of Guadalupe Tocci and Maya Donkor followed with a 6-3 victory at No. 1, and Kaitlin Blount and Yasmin El Fadili closed out the sweep with a hard-fought 7-5 victory at No. 3.
The dominance carried into singles as the Javelinas rolled across the lineup. Donkor, Tocci and Landaeta each picked up convincing straight-set victories at their respective positions. Andersson Gomez continued her strong finish to the season with a 6-4, 6-1 performance at No. 4. Blount gutted out a three-set battle at No. 5, winning the super tiebreak 10-7 to close it out.
With the win the Javelinas close the regular season at 9-10 overall and 5-5 in conference play. Their postseason fate now rests on Saturday's result between Cameron University and Eastern New Mexico. If Cameron loses, the Javelinas are in the LSC Tournament. The Javelinas have done their part. Now they wait.
