EDMOND, Okla. (Tennis) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (11-6, 1-1 LSC) continues to pile up the wins as they have won five of its last six matches after a 6-3 victory against the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith (3-10, 1-1 Heartland Conference) on Saturday afternoon at Broncho Courts, home of Central Oklahoma Tennis.
The win improves the clubs record to 4-2 in regional bouts and 3-1 when playing on a neutral floor this season.
Erika Larrea and Viviana Ortiz provided a great start once again as they won their sixth consecutive match with an 8-3 victory over Lea Cizeron and Tristen Brunson in doubles fight No. 3. Tabata Lua and Julia Rauer teamed up for the first time this season and pulled out an 8-6 win against Shaun Williams and Andrea Stapper in the second flight but the Lions refused to be swept as Brittaney McCasin and Lindsey Pearce (5th in South Central Region) overcame Valerie Ruiz and Victoria Romanovskaia 8-4.
Rauer got the first win in singles competition with a 6-2, 6-0 thumping over Stapper in flight four, and Larrea increased her win streak to eight after she topped Brunson 7-6, 6-1 in the final flight. Stephanie Baerman sealed the win for the unit once she figured out her opponent Shaun Williams (6-7, 6-3, 6-2) in flight No. 5. UAFS took flights two and three, but Lisa Carvajal added the insurance win after a tight 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 defeat against McCasin in the top singles flight.
Texas A&M-Kingsville's road trip will come to a close tomorrow as they face #15 Midwestern State in a LSC dual match.
