KINGSVILLE, Texas (Tennis) – Ranked No. 7 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) South Central Region, Texas A&M University-Kingsville (7-5) picked up an 8-1 victory over No. 8 Newman University (3-9) Tuesday afternoon on the campus of Texas A&M-Kingsville.
Erika Larrea teamed with Viviana Ortiz for the fifth consecutive victory in doubles No. 3, 8-5, and in singles No. 6, Larrea downed Mariana Guvaria, 6-1, 6-0. The tandem got things rolling as Valerie Ruiz and Victoria Romanovskaia won No. 1, 8-4 and in doubles No. 2, Tabata Lua and Lisa Carvajal took the flight 8-6 to put Kingsville up 3-0.
As previously stated, Larrea improved to 6-2 in singles No. 6 with the win. Carvajal – ranked No. 8 in the region – upended No. 17 Janneke de Rijk, 6-2, 7-5. Julia Rauer defeated Emily Wise 6-0, 6-1 in No. 4 and Romanovskaia and Stephanie Baerman won in three-set thrillers.
