Kingsville, TX – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team dropped a Lone Star Conference match to Cameron University Saturday afternoon, falling 5-2 at the Javelina Tennis Courts.
Cameron controlled the doubles point from the start, winning all three courts to take the early 1-0 lead. The Javelinas were unable to find traction across the lineup as the Aggies swept their way to the advantage and carried momentum into singles play.
In singles, Cameron pulled away early as Maya Donkor fell at No. 1, setting the tone for the top of the lineup. Yasmin El Fadili and Kaitlin Blount followed, dropping their matches at No. 6 and No. 5 respectively as the Aggies continued to apply pressure across the court. Andrea Landaeta put up a fight at No. 3, pushing the match to a third set before falling in the super tiebreak in what was one of the more competitive battles of the afternoon.
The Javelinas provided bright spots in the middle and bottom of the lineup. Annika Andersson Gomez turned in another impressive performance at No. 4, controlling the majority of her match in a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 victory to continue what has been a standout senior season. Guadalupe Tocci capped the day with the most dramatic result, dropping the opening set before digging deep to take the next two and win 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 in a match that showcased her resilience on the court.
Kingsville falls to 4-8 on the season and heads to San Antonio next Friday to take on St. Mary's University at 2:00 PM in continuing LSC action.
