Kingsville, TX – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team dropped a Lone Star Conference match to No. 24 Midwestern State Friday afternoon, falling 6-1 at the Javelina Tennis Courts.
The Mustangs took the doubles point, winning two of three courts to grab the early 1-0 lead. Guadalupe Tocci and Maya Donkor got Kingsville on the board in doubles, taking down their opponents 6-3, but the pairings of Kaitlin Blount/Annika Andersson Gomez and Andrea Landaeta/Yasmin El Fadili were unable to hold on, falling 3-6 on their respective courts.
Midwestern State carried its momentum into singles, pulling away across the lineup. Donkor fell in a three-set battle at No. 1, dropping the decisive super tiebreak 4-10. Tocci fell at No. 2, while Landaeta, Blount and El Fadili each dropped their matches as well.
The lone Javelina point came from Annika Andersson Gomez, who gutted out another impressive performance at No. 4. Andersson Gomez dropped the second set before rallying to win the super tiebreak 10-6, continuing her standout season.
Kingsville falls to 4-7 on the season and returns to the Javelina Tennis Courts tomorrow at noon to host Cameron University in another LSC matchup.
