Orlando, FL – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team dropped its final match of the Orlando trip Thursday morning, falling to Bryant University 4-2 at the USTA National Campus.
The Bulldogs controlled the doubles point from the start, sweeping all three courts to take an early 1-0 lead. Kingsville's pairings of Donkor/Tocci, Andersson Gomez/Blount and Halvarsson/Landaeta were unable to find traction against a deep Bryant lineup.
In singles, Bryant continued to pull away at the top of the lineup as Yahli Noy handled Tocci 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 1 position and Natalia Vela defeated Donkor 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2. Nicole Isman also picked up a win over Halvarsson at No. 5.
The bright spots came in the middle of the lineup. Andrea Landaeta gutted out a hard-fought 7-6, 7-6 victory over Hernandez Diaz at No. 3, winning both sets in tiebreaks. Annika Andersson Gomez continued her impressive season at No. 4, rallying to defeat Pino 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 in a third-set super tiebreak to improve to 9-1 on the season in singles play.
Kingsville closes the Orlando trip at 4-6 on the season and returns home to open a busy stretch of Lone Star Conference play. The Javelinas will host No. 12 Midwestern State Friday, March 27 at noon at the Javelina Tennis Courts in their second LSC match of the season.
