Kingsville — The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's tennis team hits the road this week for a Lone Star Conference matchup in San Antonio, taking on St. Mary's University Friday at the Rohrbach Stadium Tennis Complex.
The Javelinas enter at 4-8 overall and 0-3 in conference play, looking to pick up their first LSC win of the season on the road. St. Mary's comes in at 10-6 overall and a perfect 3-0 in conference play, riding a four-match winning streak heading into the contest.
Annika Andersson Gomez has been a bright spot for Kingsville this season, posting an 11-1 overall record and riding a five-match winning streak heading into the week. Her consistent performance has been a key piece of the Javelinas' lineup, and she will look to carry that momentum into Friday's road contest.
The Rattlers have been particularly dominant in conference play across both singles and doubles. In singles, St. Mary's has posted a 16-2 record, with Alessia Terlizzi going a perfect 3-0 at No. 1. The Rattlers have not dropped a match at the No. 1, 2, 3, or 5 positions in conference play.
In doubles, St. Mary's has been even more impressive, going a perfect 9-0 across all three positions in LSC action. A combination that makes them one of the toughest opponents the Javelinas will face all season.
Friday's road matchup presents a significant challenge, but also a chance for Kingsville to pick up its first LSC win and change the tone of its conference season.
