ORLANDO, Fla. (Tennis) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (5-3, 1-0 LSC) will have three matches this week in Florida with two of the three teams being nationally ranked. The first will be against No. 28 Indiana University of Pennsylvania (5-0, 1-0 PSAC) on March 14, followed by a match against Palm Beach Atlantic University (6-5, 1-2 SSC) on March 15 and concludes with a dual match against No. 33 Florida Southern College (4-2, 3-0 SSC) on March 17th.
The Javs got back in the winning column with an 8-1 victory over #12 North Central Texas College at the UTPB Shootout. Lisa Carvajal (8-3, 5-1 in spring) and Erika Larrea (5-3, 4-2 in spring) are both on a two-match winning streak in singles play and are apart of strong tandems in doubles competition. Larrea and Viviana Ortiz is 4-1 as a unit after dropping their first game together. Carvajal and Tabata Lua—who is ranked eighth in the South Central Region—is 4-1 this spring and is currently on a three-match winning streak.
No. 28 Indiana Pennsylvania enters the busy week with a 5-0 record including a 1-0 record in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). They hold the top spot in the Atlantic Region and has one athlete in Luise von Agris who is ranked 50th in the nation. Agris is 10-6 in singles this season and sits third in the region. Jarka Petercakova (fifth in the Atlantic Region) is on a three-game winning streak and is 8-2 in her last ten matches. Other notable athletes for the Crimson Hawks are Raquel Gonzalez (4-1 in spring) and Katya Minchenkova (4-0 in spring) who rank 11th and 14th, respectively in the Atlantic Region.
The next match of the week will be the first against an institution in the Sunshine State Conference, Palm Beach Atlantic. Despite a difficult start, PBA has won its last three matches, led by Michaela Mignomi who is 7-2 this season and have won her last five matches. Romina Bolagay (6-5) has also won three straight and partners with Mignomi in doubles where they are 8-2 this year with a six-game winning streak.
The business trip in Florida will conclude with a match against No. 33 Florida Southern. The Moccasins are eighth in the South Region and has won its last four after starting the season 4-2. Sasha Nionova, 15th ranked athlete in the South Region, is 4-0 this spring in singles play. Although currently not ranked, Lorena Rionda and Magda Stepnikis currently one of the hottest doubles paring in the region with a 5-1 record this spring.
