MIDLAND, Texas (Tennis) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (5-3, 1-0 LSC) dismantled No. 12 North Central Texas College (0-2) on Friday at the Bush Tennis Courts to claim its first win of the season over a nationally ranked opponent.Â
The route began when the Javelinas took all three doubles flights with no questions asked. Erika Larrea and Viviana Ortiz (4-1) took care of Agustina Grimolizzi and Kelsea Baksh 8-3 in doubles No. 3. Valerie Ruiz and Victoria Romanovskaia (3-4) got back in the winning column with a big upset over #21 Ana-Cristina Orozco and Ann-Kathrin Zilles 8-1, while the eighth ranked tandem in the South Central Region, Lisa Carvajal and Tabata Lua (4-1) won their third straight match in flight No. 2 with an 8-4 victory over Nikita Hill and Essence Green. Â
With time to rest up, Larrea (4-2) showed no mercy and blanked Baksh (6-0, 6-0) in singles flight No. 6 to give the Javelinas a comfortable 4-0 lead in the match. Her partner Ortiz (3-3) followed her cue and relinquished just one point to Green in singles No. 4 (6-1, 6-0) to secure the win. Romanovskaia (4-4) put the icing on the cake by knocking off #35 Orozco 6-3, 6-1 on court No. 1 and Stephanie Baerman (4-2) gave the Hogs a 7-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the fifth flight. Zilles did get the best of Ruiz (4-4) in flight No. 2 (3-6, 6-4, 10-6), but Julia Rauer (4-3) ended the match on a high note for the Javs with a 6-3, 6-2 defeat over Hill in singles flight No. 3.
