BROWNWOOD, Texas (Tennis) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville finally makes its return to the tennis courts with their first match of the spring coming against Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, February 4th at 10 a.m.
The Javelinas return five players from a season ago highlighted by 2015 LSC Newcomer of the Year Erika Larrea and Tabata Lua who was a redshirt last season. The other returners consist of Madi Gomez, Nadia Grlj and Martina Urrutia. Head coach Autumn Williams brings in a strong class of freshman and transfers for the 2017 season. Valerie Ruiz and Lisa Carvajal are both ranked regionally in singles play at 12 and 17, respectively. In doubles action, the tandem of Carvajal and Lua is ranked eight in the region.Â
The Hogs will play their first home match on Texas A&M-Kingsville campus in the program's history in two weeks (February 10th) when they face off against Dallas Baptist University at 2 p.m. on the new TAMUK Tennis Courts, followed by the first conference match of the season the following day at 2 p.m. against the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.
